Drink beer. Help Animals. It’s the simple mantra that’s driven Metazoa Brewing Company forward from day one. Already well-known in Indy as one of the most dog-friendly places (that free dog park!) to grab a beer or three while enjoying great views of the city from their huge outdoor patio, owner Dave Worthington was looking to expand the business well beyond the draw of the taproom. They’d need to be known for their beer. And for their ace-in-the-hole: their mission.

Metazoa was born at the intersection of Dave’s enthusiasm for beer and his wife’s devotion to animal welfare. The idea has always been to brew and sell great beer, then donate 5% of the proceeds to deserving animal and wildlife rescue organizations. Brewmaster John J. Hall (of Goose Island fame) was brought on board to ensure that the name Metazoa is synonymous with quality and flavor, while partner organizations like Save the Chimps, The Elephant Sanctuary, and the Humane Society (full list here) were selected to make sure Metazoa is also known for doing good.

Translating passion into design

After several meetings and more pints than we care to count, it was clear the brand needed to be a direct reflection of the people who make Metazoa great. Each adept at their craft—whether that be business, brewing, or philanthropy—and each endlessly welcoming, they are the approachable experts. Scientific minds with big-time soft sides. A field notebook with a drawing of a fuzzy kitten in it.

We began with a can design for flagship beer Kitten Slumber Party, which is our favorite beer name of all time, then expanded into multiple other can designs, signage, apparel, barware, promotional items, and sales collateral, arming them with everything necessary to take on the crowded regional craft beer market.

So be on the lookout for Metazoa at your favorite store or on tap at your local watering hole. And help animals responsibly.
